The Annex Presents:

The Stamp Project - Creating Cultural Currency

A Project brought to you by artist activist Margaret Garcia

Opening Night Reception: Saturday, June 12, 2010 from 7-10 pm

"The Federal Government’s Stimulus package does not include the Cultural Community, The Visual Arts, Music, Dance, Poetry, Literature, Etc. We are left out of the equation because our contributions are not valued or acknowledged. Knowing this we must ACT to both recognize our own value and uphold to our own standards of what we truly value.

I invited artists, musicians, poets, and writers to create a stamp image that represents their contribution to the cultural community of which they are part. The stamps are produced as serigraph prints. Each print must be an affirmation of what one contributes or an affirmation of a value that one desires .... all qualities need to be stimulated or cultivated …. Love, peace, health, prosperity, compassion, forgiveness, tolerance.

A red postmark of The Circle of Women Artists will be placed on each print validating each value. My hope is that the creation of these stamps will bring attention to what is truly important."
