And The Annex Presents:

Ismael de Anda III

FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE
Flux Ultralux

Avenue 50 Studio Annex Gallery is pleased to present FORTRESS OF SOLITUDE/FLUX ULTRALUX, new work by Ismael de Anda III. De Anda’s latest meditation celebrates the luxuriance and security of fleeting, impermanent, and continually moving inhabitation, fusing imagery from de Anda’s journeys throughout the Southwestern United States, Northern Mexico, and his recent travels in Japan. De Anda draws on a re-constructed memory of visiting the “strategy room” from the Quinta Luz Museum, the former home and headquarters of Pancho Villa. De Anda remembers the “strategy room” as an intimate room covered with wall paintings as a means of inspiring the revolutionary, as well as a material depiction of one’s inner mind and heart. De Anda’s composite landscape of memories also re-mixes childhood experiences, Asian textile designs, and interpretive inspiration from Japanese Obon, a time when spirits of the past are supposed to revisit households.
