ABOUT US

The Avenue 50 Studio will host an art exhibit of serigraphs, lithographs and paintings by Havana artist Rubén Rodríguez Martínez. Rodríguez's powerful sense of line translates into dynamically fluid figures floating in space. These deceptively simple but energetic images create a balance between the physical and the intellectual as we struggle to comprehend the relationship of disjointed parts. Mr. Rodríguez is dealing with the physical moment. Supporting our exhibition, we are proud to announce that Muñeco will be performing live Afro-Cuban Yoruba music. Please join us as we celebrate Cuban culture.

Born in Cardenas, Matanzas Province, Cuba in 1959, Rodríguez graduated in 1975 from the Provincial School of Plastic Arts of Las Villas. He carried out studies in the National School of Plastic Arts of Havana graduating with a specialty in drawing, printmaking and painting. Many of his works are in private museums, galleries and collections in Brazil, Teheran, Venezuela, Kuwait, Portugal, Spain, United States, Uruguay, Germany, Panama, and Cuba. At the present time, Rodr'guez is a professor of engraving at the Superior Institute of Art of Havana. He is a member of the National Union of Cuban Writers and Artists (UNEAC).
